Proyecto Koinobori
(Koinobori Project)
Intervention in situ in the Hermitage of San Cristobal, Sagunto (Valencia)
Spain 2010
Koinobori flags are traditional Japanese flags with carp form which are hoisted in a holiday dedicated to children (as the Kodomo no hi). Traditionally Japanese people identify the carp as a vigorous fish because of their strength on having wallowed against the stream in the rivers. The association of this fish with children is related with the paternal desire of a growth full of strength and vitality. The principal aim of this project was to generate a cultural exchange, moving a Japanese tradition to Sagunto's city. Young people from the city, in collaboration with the artist, painted five carps part of the project.
