Kaoru Katayama Kaoru Katayama (Himeji, Japan) lives in Spain since 1992, her work explores issues related to her position as a foreigner and the fact that she has two different cultural backgrounds. While, she uses a diversified range of media including drawings, photographs and sculpture, videoperformance has been a recurring means to address cultural instability. She records performative situations in which cultural shock can be conveyed, showing different states of confusion, discourage or adaptation. Providing the possibility of unexpected events can stimulate a playful debate around cultural (non)communication.
Katayama received a BFA from the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain. She was the winner of the Young Artists Awards at ARCO 2006, Madrid.
